Medal of Honor Citation Jefferson Joseph DeBlanc, who shot down nine enemy aircraft during his two tours of duty in the Pacific at Guadalcanal and Okinawa and was awarded the Medal of Honor, was born in Lockport, Louisiana, on 15 February 1921.
Mitchell Paige, USMC, Medal of Honor recipient for action during WWII at the Battle of Guadalcanal. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Paige was sent overseas with the 7th Marines. In September 1942, the unit landed at Guadalcanal. By this time, Paige had been a machine-gunner for six years and was the platoon leader.
